SugaRayBallard began his musical career in the 1980s as a member of The Ballard Brothers, a gospel group out of Humboldt, TN and experienced solo success with a band called The Technics, a southern soul group. SugaRay has performed to sold out concerts throughout the U.S. The peak of his popularity came while with The Ballard Brothers when the band signed a deal with Haran Griffin at Talk of the Town Records and released a hit album Sign of the Times. The band had hits such as Lied On, One Moment, and Thank you, Master. Haran Griffin referred to SugaRay as one of the most talented purveyors of gospel and southern soul music.
Willie Ray Ballard was born in Humboldt, TN on September 22, 1948. He and his twin, Wanda-Faye, were the sixth and seventh of eleven children born to Clarence and Loraine Ballard. The son of a sharecropper, he started performing at age ten in a Humboldt quartet called The Ballard Brothers and became known as SugaRay later as a solo artist. The Ballard Brothers toured extensively in the mid-1960s in the South until the family moved to Lorain, Ohio where they continued their popularity and toured around Ohio.
SugaRayBallard is a music-business survivor, elder statesman and champion of old-school soul.

May 2012 SugaRay will release his new record titled Suga to My Soul followed by a concert tour to promote the new album. SugaRay believes that 2012 will be the breakout year for his solo career.
